Windsurfing: The Manor-Felixstowe Wind Direction: sw Wind Stength: 14/20 Surf / Sea State: lumpy Air Temperature: 14 Sea Temperature: Weather: cloudy and cool :( Max Speed: 23.77 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 49.5 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
With a good breeze forecast but overcast and sw it was a good chance to try
The Manor end, so I was at Landguard carpark early and was rigged by 10
Again sail choice was a problem with my new 8.5 still in Bristol it was 7.8
with the 6.4 an option if the wind filled in. When I first got there I had
one groyne free of fishermen so I put my Xantos 295 on the beach to claim
the groyne but when I was ready to launch the wind seemed light so I went
and got the bigger 310, the first time I have used this small sail on this
board and it was fine for the whole session my 50th of the year My plan
was to go for an hour but the wind was a bit up and down and the sea was
agian on the lumpy side but with the tide still coming in getting upwind
was no problem and then at the end of the first hour I went for a broad
mile but was under. I don't know where everyone was as I was out by myself
but as I came ashore another sailor turned up with a freestyle board and
6.4 but he struggled to get going and lost dowwind After a sandwich I went
for another hour session but this was harder as you had to beat both ways
just to stay in the same spot, so not very fast. After a short break I had
another hour to see if I could do 100 k but with the tide with wind and the
wind still up and down I got to 91 k - I think thats the most I have down
at Felixstowe I was joined by a couple of windsurfers who launched from
the caravans and I could see at least a couple out at The Fludgers. The
highlight of the session was seeing a big seal out to sea but it was a
miserable cloudy cool day - not looking forward to the winter !!!
